At approximately 4:30 PM on September 9,2011, the body of Christopher Hannaford was discovered by two fishermen in the Harrison River. The body was discovered a short distance from where police suspected he entered the water. The location of the body was only accessible by boat and took several hours for police and Search and Rescue to retrieve the body and bring him to shore.

A large scale search for Hannaford had been on going since his disappearance on September 3, 2011. "Although this is a very sad ending to a long and involved search, Chris’s family now has the closure they need to move on," said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. Hannaford’s brother had arrived from Newfoundland on the day his brother’s body was discovered and was able to assist police in making a positive identification.

The cause of death will not be released until a full coroner’s examination has been completed. The RCMP would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the search for Christopher Hannaford.
