A huge debate has taken amongst Massachusetts Lawmakers because of the ever growing casino gambling bill.
Rep. Ruth Balser(D) said “The rate of suicide for gambling addicts is higher than any other addition”
Many critics believe that if the ever expanding gambling if not controlled it will lead to many social issues in the state and it will provide fuel to the industry that thrives from dept and addiction.
Rep. Denise Provost (D) said “It’s hasty and it takes the power away from the communities and the legislature and puts it in a commission that has very few parameters”
In a downhill economy which is in desperate need of tax revenue and jobs, the gambling bill was passed with a staggering vote of 123 to 32.
Three resort style casinos and one slots parlor will be established.
Kathi Reinstein (D) Said “People are really looking forward to going to work and these are very good jobs with great benefits”
The people who are supporting the cause say that the casino and Slots parlor will create nearly 16,000 jobs.
$85 million will be the bidding cost for a casino license and revenue generated from the casinos would be viable for 25% tax.
The bill that got approved on Wednesday night will now be presented to the Senate. The verdict will be given in about two weeks.
