On September 10th, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing incident which occurred in the area of College Avenue and Aikins Street.
This ongoing investigation has revealed that a 15 year old male youth, in the company of another male friend, were riding their bikes in the area of Boyd Avenue and Aikins Street when they encountered another group of males whom where known to them. The two groups spoke briefing to one another before immediately engaging in a physical confrontation. It was during this confrontation that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
The victim and his friend ran to the area of College Avenue and Aitkins Street where the victim collapsed as a result of his injuries. Officers and emergency services personnel were notified. The victim was conveyed to the hospital in critical condition with serious upper body injuries.
The Winnipeg Police Service was later notified that the victim, a 15 year old male, had succumbed to his injuries
On Wednesday, September 14th, 2011, at approximately 2:15 p.m., as a result of the continued investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, a male suspect was taken into custody without incident, within the 1300 block of Main Street.
Steven Raymond Johnston, 18 years of Winnipeg is facing a charge of 2nd Degree Murder for his alleged involvement into this incident.
Johnston has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
This investigation is continuing.
