Four-miners-are-still-trappedA mine collapse in Neath valley caused the four miners to get trapped 300ft underground.

A small hill-side mine, near Cilybebyll, has been in operation since 1993. A difficult rescue operation is being conducted after four miners got trapped in a flooded colliery in Pontardawe, near Swansea. South Wales police has called officers, with fire and ambulance crews to the Gleision colliery at 9.20a.m. It is reported that the three miners had managed to escape the disaster. One of them is being treated in hospital but the other two are reporting the rescuers about the whole incident.

Superintendent, Phil Davies has told that there is no blockage issue in the mine rather a water issue which is currently being tried to drain out. A difficult situation is currently being dealt by the rescue team. They are doing whatsoever is necessary and possible. Councillor, Arthur Threlfall, who serves on Cilybebyll community council, has reported the situation as a worrying one. He told that Gleision is one of those collieries that has open and shut many times, and miners tend to work on the basis of when coal is found. However, it has recently been extended and it is the first mining disaster known for many years which left everyone in a state of shock.

The Neath MP and shadow Welsh secretary, Peter Hain has expressed his concern that he is continually seeking information on the miner’s safety and the necessary actions to be taken urgently by all relevant authorities to secure them.
