Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are investigating two suspicious deaths that occurred in the Town of Markham.
On Thursday, September 22, 2011, at approximately 7 p.m., police and fire were called to a residence on Kentland Street in regard to a garage fire. Two people were located inside the garage. A 42-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene and a 48-year-old male was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is still in its early stages. The cause of the fire and the deaths are still to be determined. A post mortem has been scheduled for tomorrow.
Update: Post-mortem examinations have been completed and the cause of death for both of the deceased was determined to be smoke inhalation. There were no signs of trauma to either person.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking for witnesses to come forward.
