The state of Texas has put an end to the last meals to convicted death row inmates. Earlier in the week lawmakers accused the inmates of unnecessary and extreme ordering of food.

The stance has been taken after a 44 year murderer Lawrence Brewer pledged for a meal that included: two chicken-fried steaks with gravy and sliced onions; a triple-patty bacon cheeseburger; a cheese omelet with ground beef, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and jalapeños; a bowl of fried okra with ketchup; one pound of barbecued meat with half a loaf of white bread; three fajitas; a meat-lover’s pizza; one pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream; a slab of peanut-butter fudge with crushed peanuts; and three root beers.

Brewers request was accepted and the aforementioned food was cooked at the prison kitchen and presented to him a short while before he was to be executed. Brewer however did not eat it.

Houston based democrat John Whitmire was furious upon hearing this and termed it outrageous and disrespecting. He then wrote a letter to the executive director of state prison agency Mr. Brad Livingston and asked for this law to be terminated with immediate effect.

He also added” He is a bad person who I don’t believe the state should be giving special conditions, The fact that Brewer didn’t eat it “compounded everything,” showing that the condemned man had “manipulated the system” by ordering “more food than a family of four can eat in a week.”
