In Tuesday night’s broadcasted debate, McGuinty said he is tired of Hudak’s repeated claims that Ontario’s economy is suffering. He said: “I’m with Bill Davis on this. He says it is unbecoming to run down our province like this.”

When former premier Bill Davis was asked how he felt about McGuinty referring to his stand, Davis excitedly said: “Well, its better someone brought it up than no one. What do you want me to say?”

In response to other questions on his similarities with Hudak, the 82-year-old Davis said: “No one is in my style; I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. You have to help me. Where is the right, where is the left, where is the middle?”

However, he admitted that Hudak is doing splendidly in the Peel area, where federal PCs picked up seats in the May 2 election. Bill Davis has never lost an election. He stood up four times and won them all.

He added: “We came close in 1975, but we had good luck. You know, I’ve been there myself in 1971, 1975, 1977 and 1981.”

Summing up his views on the debate, he said: “I thought it was a good debate.”
