The London Police Service Cyber Crime Unit played a key role in the rescue of a young female victim, and the arrest of a Quebec resident on sexual assault and child pornography charges.
London Detectives uncovered offences as they related to a female under the age of 16-years-old. As the investigation unfolded, London Detectives liaised with The RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC) and the Surete du Quebec’s (SQ) Special Unit that investigates sexual exploitation of children on the Internet.
On Thursday September 29, 2011, the SQ arrested 33-year-old Eric Rivard, of Chateauguay, who now faces charges dating back to 2002, of:
Possession of child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(4)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Production of child pornography available, contrary to section 163.1(2)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
accessing child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(4.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Two counts of distribution of child pornography available, contrary to section 163.1(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Sexual assault, contrary to section 271(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Sexual interference, contrary to section 152 of the Criminal Code of Canada
Invitation to sexual touching, contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code of Canada
