By securing 11 of 19 seats, Yukon Party got re-elected to form a majority government Tuesday evening. Moreover, Yukon Party Leader Darrell Pasloski won his first seat in the legislature since he became NDP’s leader this May.

He said: “Democracy is alive in the Yukon. What a great historic election today… My focus now is how do we take our new team and the things that we talked about to move forward and make this a better place for all Yukoners.”

During these elections, three major cabinet ministers; Health Minister Glenn Hart, Economic Development Minister Steve Nordick and Justice Minister Marian Horne had to face defeat. Reportedly, NDP plans to form the Official Opposition with six seats. NDP Leader Liz Hanson was also re-elected for her post.

On the other hand, the Liberals were completely defeated, securing only two sites. Most importantly, Liberal Leader Arthur Mitchell lost his seat to the Yukon Party.

He said: “Today our territory’s voted and we and it may not have ended as we had hoped. As a territory, Yukoners have chartd the course for the next few years, and we have to respect that decision. Politics sometimes teaches hard lessons and I’m sure we’re all a bit stronger for having learned them.”
