The Hamilton Police Service has seized $350,000.00 worth of marihuana after responding to a possible break and enter at an East Hamilton home.

On Thursday, October 20th, 2011, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Hamilton Police went to a home on Basswood Crt., in the area of Green Rd. and Barton St. E., for a possible break and enter that just occurred.

The responding officers entered the home after finding the front door insecure and apparently forced open. Nobody was inside but evidence of a grow operation was observed. The home was held while a search warrant was obtained by members of the Vice and Drugs Unit.

Later in the evening, just after midnight, the search warrant was executed. Officers located a sophisticated hydroponics marihuana grow operation, which utilized four separate rooms in the home. Hydro to the address had been bypassed. The furnace ventilation system had been altered to enable ventilation for the marihuana grow operation.

Members of the Hamilton Police Service Vice and Drugs Unit dismantled the grow operation and seized 350 marihuana plants at various stages of growth with a street value of $350, 000.00. Horizon Utilities attended to turn off the hydro to the address. Union Gas attended to examine the furnace unit. The City of Hamilton Public Works attended and turned off the water to the home.

No arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing.
