28-year-old Cranbrook, B.C., babysitter is been held responsible for the death of a 19-month old who was found dead in a bathtub last May. Tammy Marion Bouvette is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Iyanna Teeple on May 26.

When Teeple was found in the tub, she had stopped breathing. The toddler was taken to East Kootenay Regional Hospital in emergency. Later, she was flown to Calgary Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead on May 29th.

Cpl. Chris Faulkner said: “The B.C. Ambulance Service and first responders from the Cranbrook Fire Department didn’t really like the environment that the child was found in, so they were a little suspicious — like the details they were being told, with what they found at the scene.”

According to an autopsy report, the child died from drowning. Allegedly, Teeple was left in the supervision of her babysitter Tammy Marion Bouvette on the morning of May 19. Bouvette was suspected of treachery and the evidence was put forward to Crown Counsel on June 24th.

“It was just an off and on thing, through acquaintances. The babysitter herself has four of her own children. It wasn’t a licensed daycare, but it was kind of a situation where friends look after friends,” said Faulkner.

Police is refusing to share any additional information on the case, but have highly praised the Medical Examiner in Alberta for pushing this investigation forward.
