The Ottawa Police Service Major Crime Section is investigating a suspicious circumstance in the 1500 block of Heatherington Road in relation to the discovery of human remains in a backyard this morning by a construction crew.
The coroner has determined that the human remains have most likely been there for a number of years. The Ottawa Police investigation continues.
Update: This afternoon, the Ottawa Police Service Major Crime Section completed its preliminary investigation into the found human remains in the backyard of a residence located at 1535 Heatherington Road.
The archaeological dig was also completed today. The unearthed human remains will be sent to the Centre for Forensic Science and Medicine in Toronto for assessment and forensic identification.
This process will likely take from a few weeks to months to complete. There is no further information available at this time as this remains an ongoing police investigation.
