One of the Conservative campaign employee warned Canadians about robocalls via Twitter. Andrew Prescott, the deputy campaign manager to Guelph Conservative candidate Marty Burke, posted warnings against possible calls to hold back voters before the Election Day.

Prescott tweeted on April 30: “Anti-#CPC voter suppression phone calls currently underway in Guelph, suspecting #LPC #elxn41.” Only a few minutes later, he tweeted: “using spoofed Caller-ID of Burke campaign. I ‘wonder’ who it could be…”

Over 100 voters were misinformed about the polling stations over phony robocalls. These people ended up going to the Quebec Street Mall polling station. According to Elections Canada, these bogus calls were traced back to a disposable Virgin Mobile phone. On the other hand, Prescott has denied any possible connection with the phony calls.

When Prescott was asked questions about his tweets, he refused to answer. He wrote in an email, “You’ve already tried and sentenced me in your own mind, so I’m through talking to you. But for the record, you’re wrong. Goodbye.”

Responsive Marketing Group (RMG) – that took care of Conservative phone banking – and Campaign Research, have both threatened to take legal actions against all the journalists and officials who have defamed the party by accusing them for robocalls.

“Given the nature of RMG’s work — and the private and confidential nature of the information we collect on behalf of our clients, all employees are required to sign confidentiality agreements,” RMG said in an emailed statement.

“This has always been the case at RMG, as we give our clients an undertaking that all information collected on their behalf will not be shared or otherwise disclosed.”
