The Edmonton Police Service has arrested and charged a man in connection with an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl on Thursday, April 19, 2012 around 12:30 p.m. in the Belvedere area.
It was reported to the EPS that a suspect drove by and attempted to talk with the girl from his vehicle. When the girl refused, the suspect allegedly grabbed the girl’s backpack that she was wearing and attempted to pull her inside his older model white and orange coloured vehicle. The girl was able to break free and ran for safety.
“This brave young girl did everything right in this situation,†says Staff Sgt. Langford Bawn of Northeast Division. “The information she provided to police was integral to our investigation and lead to the arrest of the suspect.â€
Police were later contacted by the girl’s grandmother who reported the incident. A joint investigation involving the EPS and the RCMP was launched and resulted in the arrest of a suspect. At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012, a suspect was located by RCMP on Highway 14 and was subsequently turned over to EPS.
Lloyd James, 83 was charged with attempted abduction.
The investigation is on-going.
