Man charged with attempted murder of a young girl

On Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 4:12 p.m., police responded to a stabbing call in the Yonge Street/Eglinton Avenue West area.

It is alleged that:
– a man and a 13-year-old girl were talking to each other in front of an apartment building
– the man became upset during the conversation and cut the girl along the base of her neck
– the girl ran from the man and, as she did, he cut her across her back
– a witness intervened and held the man until police arrive

The girl was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 50-year-old man has been charged with:
1. Attempted Murder
2. Aggravated Assault
3. Assault with Weapon
4. Carry Concealed Weapon
5. Threatening Death

He appeared in court at College Park on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 10 a.m., room 501.
The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
