A 22-year-old man is dead following a collision on Groat Road late Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 4:43 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, a man driving a 2000 Kawaski ZX600 south on Groat Road, south of 107 Avenue, allegedly lost control and struck a metal guard rail along the west curb of Groat Road.
As a result of the collision, the man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he later died. The rider was wearing a proper full-face helmet and riding jacket at the time of the collision.
Traffic investigators are looking into whether excessive speed and rider inexperience were factors in the collision. Road and weather conditions were very good at the time of the collision.
Groat Road was closed to southbound traffic until 11:11 p.m. last night to allow Traffic Section members to investigate.
