The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a double fatality collision that happened yesterday on the Red Hill Valley Parkway (RHVP) and is asking witnesses to contact them.

On Tuesday, September 18th, 2012 at approximately 10:20 a.m., the driver of a Toyota Echo was entering the RHVP, on the southbound ramp from Barton St., when the car lost control and spun into the southbound lanes of the RHVP.

The car, at one point, went sideways across the lanes and was struck broadside on the driver’s side by a large truck.  The impact pushed the vehicle down the parkway approximately 300 ft. trapping both occupants inside.

The Hamilton Police Service, Fire Dept. and EMS responded and the two occupants of the car, the driver, a 49 yr. old Hamilton man and his passenger, a 71 yr. old Hamilton woman, were pronounced as deceased at the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital as a precaution.  He was treated and released.

Speed and weather conditions were a factor in this collision.

The names of the deceased are not being released at the request of the family.
