The infamous mob boss, Vito Rizzuto, has successfully landed in Canada today, as he was received at the Toronto’s Pearson International Airport from a flight coming form United States. 66-years-old Rizzuto was released on Friday morning from a medium security facility in Denver, Colorado. He has spent almost five years in the prison for his conviction of playing a role in the 1981 murders of three Bonanno crime family members.
Rizzuto was taken under custody in Canada in 2004. Later in 2006, he was extradited to the U.S. and indicted with racketeering and scheming the triple murder of the three New York City Mafia captains. Rizzuto, the most overriding mob of Montreal underworld of the time, is now going to return in a weaker position as he has lost his father and son, who were killed as he was still in jail. During 2010, his brother-in-law was abducted without a trace as well.
James Dubro, an experience crime writer, claimed that “at 86 his father was important enough to kill,” just for the sake of “sending a strong message to Vito that he is no longer in charge.” Just as Rizutto left the prison in the U.S., his home in Montreal was preparing for the funeral services of his father-in-law, Leonardo Cammalleri, who passed away due to a heart attack this week at 92.
Rizzuto’s is anticipated to return to his family home on the infamous Montreal Street but it is not known for sure what his fate will be in Canada.
