Toronto police arrested fugitive man Steven John Pieczynski for several legal violations

On Tuesday, October 23, 2012, members of the Toronto Police Service Fugitive Squad, the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET), the Ontario Provincial Police and the Canada Border Services Agency arrested Steven John Pieczynski, 37.

At 3:05 p.m., police located and arrested the accused in the Markham Road/Eglinton Avenue East area.

He is currently wanted in the state of Massachusetts for:

1) Failing to appear for sentencing for residential burglary and theft charges
2) Violation of Probation

It is alleged that:

– following his conviction, the accused entered Canada illegally on September 29, 2012 via a kayak, launched from Lewiston, New York, on the Lower Niagara River

– after crossing the Niagara River, it is believed that the accused then made his way to the Greater Toronto Area

He is currently being held in custody at the Metro West Detention Centre pending immigration proceedings.
