A high-status member of the Liberal party is being harshly criticized on comments about his counterparts from Wildrose Country. At the end of Natural Resources Committee meeting on Tuesday, Ottawa MP David McGuinty stated that QMI Agency Alberta MPs should return home.

McGuinty looked pretty frustrated, while he told the reporters that Conservatives from Alberta shall keep a more national view on the energy industry or shall return to work in municipal or provincial politics. He stated that “they are national legislators with a national responsibility, but they come across as very, very small-p provincial individuals who are jealously guarding one industrial sector.”

Now these comments are being harshly received by many Tories. Ottawa MP Pierre Polievre labeled McGuinty’s comments are pretty shocking, whereas the Calgary Centre-North’s Michelle Rempel challenged McGuinty to repeat the comments to her face, inside the House of Commons.

Peace River Member of Parliament, Chris Warkentin, told the press that he was pretty surprised and disgusted to hear McGuinty’s comments. He asserted that “to suggest that if Albertan MPs came to Ottawa that they should resign their seats and return to the province of Alberta seems reprehensible.” He elaborated that “this clearly is the position of the Liberal Party, to suggest that a province should not have representation in the House of Commons, is absolutely ridiculous.”

The Calgary-Centre Conservative candidate, Joan Crockett, wrote in an email correspondence that “this anti-Alberta prejudice is the same the Liberals had when they brought in the disastrous National Energy Policy in the 1980s.”
