The three vacant federal ridings are undergoing byelections which will conclude tonight, having made a lot more fuss and upheaval than mid-term elections usually do. The three ridings namely include Calgary Centre, Victoria and central Ontario’s Durham, which are all vacated by resigning MPs.

Polls have indicated that parliamentarians will not see much of a change as statistics point towards two Conservatives and one New Democrat in the House of Commons. Many ought to question, why is there so much hollering about the elections if the outcome of the byelections will not really change anything in the political dynamics.

Most excitement was seen in Calgary Centre riding, where polling showed that Tory has a significant vote bank but that is under direct and extraordinary threat from a Liberal contender, which initiated a full-force Conservative response. Conservative began scrutinizing divisive comments made by a couple of Liberals, including leadership forerunner Justin Trudeau. Furthermore, the ridings of Victoria and Durham are also deemed as important because every party is involuntarily testing their electoral strength for next general election of 2015.

The most favorite candidate of the Conservative party establishment, Joan Crockatt, is definitely going to have to explain herself to the establishment in case she fails to claim victory in the Calgary, i.e. Tory stronghold that sits next to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s riding. The seat of Calgary Centre was made available after veteran MP Lee Richardson resigned for the post of chief of staff to Alberta Premier Alison Redford.
