The famous Westmount-Ville-Marie MP Marc Garneau has finally declared his decision to officially running for the federal liberals’ leadership race. Garneau’s name is now added to an already overgrown list of candidates that are seeking liberal leadership position after McGuinty’s sudden resignation

Garneau, who well known to be the Canada’s first man to visit space, announced that his campaign will entirely focus on economic development. Garneau assured that he is totally convinced to invigorate the Liberal party. Garneau is now finally an ample high-profile competitor, which can be perceived to give a tough fight to the widely perceived forerunner Justin Trudeau. Garneau has repeatedly conversed regarding his intentions of joining the race in the past several weeks, but it was not until on Wednesday morning that he made an official announcement through a news conference at a downtown Wednesday morning. Almost a 100 people attended his conference, with his family members in the front row.

Garneau alleged that “how we propose to deal with the economy will be crucial, not only for our party’s fortunes but for the future of our country.” He stated that “If the Liberal Party is to become the choice of Canadians again, it will be because we are strong on their single most important issue of concern — the economy.” Garneau has expressed undeterred and “relentless focus” on the high-priority issue of developing a creative knowledge-based economy which will allow Canadians to achieve their potential. Garneau was elected as the Westmount-Ville Marie MP in 2008.
