The Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, has named his brother and Councillor, Doug Ford, to be the temporary budget chief. Councillor Ford is already acting as the vice-chairman of the budget committee, but now Mayor Ford’s executive committee have replaced him as chief in place of the Councillor Mike Del Grande as well. Del Grande resigned from his position of budget chief on Wednesday, soon after the council was approved the budget of 2013.

Mayor Ford will soon be announcing the name of Del Grande’s official replacement, who will be reappointed as budget chief for another two years by the executive committee. Ford’s spokesperson confirmed that the next budget chief will be announced in “due course.” Councillor Ford was recently reelected to the position of budget committee vice-chairman for another two years on Friday. Councillor Ford alleged that he doesn’t intends to stay as the city’s next budget chief, asserting  that “we’re going to make a decision.” He also added that “Rob always believes in teamwork. He’s going to bounce it off our great budget team, get their suggestions and then move on their suggestions.”

The councillor highlighted that mayor and Del Grande are “good buddies,” and expressed suspicion that perhaps “Mike Del Grande is tired.” He explained that “It’s line item by line item. He’s done an incredible job. He’s tired. He’s going to focus on the police services now and he’s going to be looking at the numbers over there. He’s definitely still part of our team. A very important part of our team and I’m sure any advice that the new budget chief has they are going to be consulting with Mike Del Grande.”
