Former boss of Vancouver Olympic, John Furlong, has reassured that all new allegations made against him in a court document filed this week are “completely unfounded.” An official statement was released on Tuesday by the founder of the TwentyTen Group, i.e. a public relations firm representing Furlong, which said that “while John is confident he will ultimately be vindicated by the court, his primary concern right now is the irreparable harm being caused to his family by this unfounded attack on his character and reputation.”

The firm repeated on Monday that Furlong will not be giving any comments to the media or speaking publicly in any capacity until the court proceedings are over. The statement released on Tuesday, alleged that Furlong describes this recently highlighted high-profile civil lawsuit to be “completely unfounded.” Furlong has filed a court case suing the journalist, Laura Robinson, who published a controversial story in the Georgia Straight last year making allegations against Furlong. The story mentioned that native students of Catholic schools were both physical and sexual abused by Furlong almost four decades ago, when he was a teacher in northern B.C.

New allegations made in Robinson’s response to Furlong’s lawsuit this week enlists even more unverified allegations of abuse with former students, along with accusations of abusing his own first wife and a second woman he had a common-law relationship with. So far none of these allegations have been proved in court. Tuesday’s statement said that Furlong’s “legal team will be filing a formal response in court in the coming days.”
