Following the successful prosecution of a former Georgina resident for sexual offences that occurred more than 30 years ago, York Regional Police is reminding citizens there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and we encourage victims to report offences even if they occurred some time ago.

Louis (Joseph) Daigle, 81, of the City of Surrey, British Columbia, was sentenced to 11 years in custody and after he was found guilty of sexual offences including Rape, Incest, and three counts of Indecent Assault on a Female by The Honourable Justice Peter Tetley in Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Newmarket. He will serve eight years in custody from his January 25, 2013 conviction date.

Mr. Daigle has also been ordered to provide a mandatory DNA sample and he will be listed on the National Sex Offender Registry for life.

In June 2010, York Regional Police was contacted by Royal Canadian Mounted Police after a woman reported Mr. Daigle had allegedly committed numerous historical sexual crimes that began in 1956. York Regional Police focused their investigation on a period of time from 1956 to 1973 when Mr. Daigle lived in the Town of Georgina. Following that time period the Daigle family moved to Surrey, B.C.

Two years after the time the complainant courageously reported the incidents to police, Mr. Daigle was brought to justice through the collaborative efforts of York Regional Police, the Newmarket Provincial and Regional Crown Offices and the RCMP in Surrey.

  1. The story neglected to mention that the church he belonged to, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, were well aware of his sexual abuse and sat mute for years, even allowing him to host meetings (which would include children attendees) in his personal rescomment_IDence. APPALLING.

    Someone should report THAT story.

  2. Glad he is finally locked up. Kudos for the bravery that got him behind bars. His age does absolutely nothing to diminish the evil deeds he committed.

Now…I am a longtime Vancouver rescomment_IDent, and attended the Marine Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Pine and 7th Ave, while good ol’ “Brother” Lou Daigle also attended in the late 1980’s. In spite of him being a creepy old guy [and his wife was even creepier], he was permitted by the congregation elders to mingle with all ages in the congregation AND allowed his home to be used as a place for bible study AND ad hoc child care [go figure].

The worst part about all this was that the elders in the hall knew exactly what they were dealing with – I was told personally by an elder that Lou was “his granddaughter’s father]. You figure it out

As “Justice” mentions above, someone should do a story on the disgusting “extended story”…
