Ontario Police revealed on Tuesday that it has seized an arsenal of homemade ammunitions concealed in the walls and garage of a home in eastern Ontario, including assault rifles, landmines, crossbows and a small cannon. It was confirmed that two suspects, one of whom was a former RCMP officer placed on a lifetime weapons ban since 2008, were arrested and have been charged in result of a police raid at the house in Bancroft on March 7. Both are facing innumerable charges for the inexplicable offence.

Overall, a total of 67 weapons were confiscated, majority of which were illegally modified or altered, along with tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition. It was disclosed that The Department of National Defence were requested to help remove anti-personnel landmines, grenades, detonator cords and blasting caps. Insp. Mario Lessard, of the Durham Regional Police, alleged that “there’s no possible reason why anybody would have such an arsenal of weapons.” Lessard stated that police is investigating the reason or purpose behind someone hording such a quantity of firearms and other weapons. He alleged that the seizure is one of the largest in the region from one person.

Lessard assured that “we are pleased that these weapons are now secure,” and further explained that “as police officers we never want to see this kind of firepower in one place. It tends to attract attention and could be the target of criminals who want these weapons for their illegal activities.” Officials revealed that the raid party found two hidden compartments built into the walls of the house, especially being used to store illegal weapons and ammunition.
