On March 13, 2013, in Tracadie-Sheila Provincial Court, a charge of second-degree murder and a charge of indignity to a dead body were laid in connection with the death of a 59-year-old woman from Saumarez.
Jecy Arseneault, a 28-year-old man from Saumarez, was charged with the death of his mother, Kathleen Arseneault. The victim’s body was discovered in her home in Saumarez on March 5, 2013.
Jecy Arseneault did not enter a plea and was ordered to undergo a 30 day psychiatric evaluation. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on April 12, 2013 at 11 a.m.
