The officials of Alberta Health Services have finally confirmed the number of 100 people being injured in an overly critical multi-vehicle crash pileup on Highway 2 south of Edmonton, near Leduc, which took place during a spring snowstorm and caused a massive chaos on area highways. Previously, it was reported that nearly 300 people have been affected, whereas it is now officially confirmed by AHS that the injured are 100.

AHS further revealed that 22 patients requiring medical attention were shifted to nearby hospitals in Edmonton, Red Deer, Leduc, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan, Devon, Wetaskiwin, Stony Plain, Lamont and Camrose, whereas around 80 remaining were treated at the scene. The initial crash took place around 11:30 MT in the northbound lanes of Highway 2 near the Highway 13 overpass, however, numerous subsequent crashes occurred afterwards. Overall an estimate of 100 vehicles were involved in the massive accident. A passenger of Red Arrow travelling from that route, Derek Fildebrandt, guessed the vehicles affected to be at least 200 and witnessed a man with allegedly broken legs. He stated that “It’s a massive, massive crash,” and “it extended, got to be at least a few kilometres.”

The Alberta director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Fildebrandt, stated that “cars flying off into the ditches beside us, smashing into each other on the road and in the ditches.” He added that there was “very little room to manoeuvre.” The authorities are anticipated the clean up to last until tomorrow morning, because of which motorists will have to abstain highway until at least 11 p.m. MT in the night.
