Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 10400 block of the Southwest Freeway (South U. S. Highway 59) about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (March 27).

The male victim, 65, was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Insititute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer T. White reported:

The victim was driving a silver Saturn Vue southbound on the Southwest Freeway and, at some point, the SUV swerved off the freeway and onto the service road and then came to a stop.  HFD emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital where he died.

It is believed the victim possibly suffered a heart attack prior to swerving off the freeway.
