Today in question period, NDP Finance Critic Michael Prue called on Premier Wynne to explain why media reports suggest the OLG is considering special funding for a Toronto casino.

“Even the bookies couldn’t peg the odds on whether Toronto will hit the jackpot for hosting a casino,” said Prue. “The Premier stood up in this house and said ‘there is no special deal for any municipality in the province,’ but media reports on the weekend suggest that OLG is anteing up by a $100 million for a downtown site.”

Other cities being considered for future casino development are concerned that any special deal offered to Toronto will not be extended to other Ontario municipalities.

“As Kenny Rogers once sang, ‘You gotta know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em, know when to walk away, know when to run.’ The OLG doesn't seem to be going anywhere,” said Prue. “It looks like they're at the table and getting set to raise the stakes for a Toronto casino to a hundred million.”

Prue urged the government to come clean on Toronto casino financing.

“Is somebody bluffing or is this Liberal government laying a huge side bet on a Toronto casino?” asked Prue. “Is the Premier ready to go ‘all in’ now, even though she said there would be no special deal for Toronto?”
