The Islamic centre in Saskatoon has been experiencing rising increase in audience, as the Friday services have now been divided into two to protect the local streets from being congested with traffic. Both city officials and residents are working together to resolve the overflowing audience. The president of the Canadian Islamic Congress and a Saskatoon resident, Amin Elshorbagy, mentioned that “we have been experiencing this kind of steady increase for a while.” He added that “we can see this in terms of the need to expand our infrastructure. Most of our Islamic centres are becoming very crowded.”

In a recent report released on Wednesday, Statistics Canada confirmed that there are now more mosques with busier prayer services and an overwhelming increase in the number of women wearing hijabs and niqabs in all walks of life. It was clarified that Islam is the fastest-growing religious group in the country. The report of Statistics Canada alleged that the Muslim population in Canada has grown at a rate exceeding all other religions. The report further expressed that the rate of growth has been even faster than the number of Canadians who identify themselves as having no religion.

It was disclosed that now Muslims represent 3.2 per cent of the country’s total population, which is an increment from the two per cent recorded in 2001. The chief of immigration and ethnocultural statistics at Statistics Canada, Tina Chui, stated that “the phenomenon of the younger age for groups such as Muslims and Hindus is a reflection of the immigration trends.” It was added that “people tend to migrate when they’re younger.”
