On January 20, 2013, members of the Hamilton Police Service and Emergency Medical Services personnel, responded to a residence on the West Mountain regarding a non-responsive male. Upon arrival it was apparent that the victim was deceased and could not be revived.

A post mortem examination aided by toxicological analysis, determined that the Victim Edward Cieslik 36 years of Hamilton, died as a result of acute heroin toxicity.

A thorough investigation conducted by Division 30 Criminal Investigations Detectives assisted by members of the Homicide Unit, has concluded that Mr. Cieslik had consensually been injected with heroin prior to his death.

On May 8, 2013, Sarah Jackson, 36 years of Hamilton, was arrested and has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of Edward Cieslik.
