The announcement of Federal MP, Denis Coderre, to run for the mayor of Montreal was partly flawed due to a couple of arrests by the police and another old man sent to hospital after causing disturbance. The incident turned out to be quit less-than-smooth debut for a veteran politician overseeing a carefully orchestrated campaign. Mr. Coderre made the announcement in front of Montreal’s historic city hall building on Thursday.

It was notable that Coderre had already hinted at numerous occasions since quite a while about his intentions of running for mayor ship of Montreal. The carefully managed announcement was disturbed by social-housing protesters, after which police had to intervene for arresting two masked protests violating the no-mask bylaw. While police was making the arrest, another almost 80-year-old protester intervened and was knocked down and had to be shifted to a nearby hospital.

Montreal police Constable, Anie Lemieux, confirmed that the incident took place at around 11 a.m. at Place-Jacques-Cartier, where Coderre was announcing to run for mayor. It was explained that two protesters were detained almost half a block away at the corner of Notre Dame and Gilford Sts., out of which one cooperated while the other did not. Furthermore, Lemieux added that while police was questioning the detained an elderly man impeded police activity and had to be pushed away after several warnings to stay away. The elderly man fell to the ground and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the masked men was ticketed, the other may be arrested.
