A 56-year-old man from the City of Mississauga has pleaded guilty and been sentenced in connection with a 2011 fatal collision which occurred in the City of Vaughan.
On Friday, May 17, 2013, Mr. Jose Couto appeared before The Honourable Justice Peter Tetley and was sentenced to one year in prison and a six-year driving prohibition. Mr. Couto had pleaded guilty to Dangerous Driving Causing Death on Monday, March 25, 2013.
On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at approximately 2:05 p.m., York Regional Police responded to reports of a collision between a 2005 Mack dump truck and a 2010 Suzuki Boulevard M109 motorcycle. Investigators from the Collision Reconstruction Unit attended and determined that the collision occurred when the westbound dump truck turned left into a private driveway on Highway 7, in front of the eastbound motorcycle.
The 30-year-old male driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Officers with the Collision Investigation Unit arrested Mr. Couto on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, without incident when he turned himself in to police at #4 District Headquarters, located at 2700 Rutherford Road.
