Pickering elderly cyclist dies in a fatal vehicle collsion in the City of Markham

Officers with the York Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit are seeking witnesses following a fatal collision in the City of Markham.

On Sunday, August 25, 2013, at 12 p.m., a blue 2007 Honda FIT was travelling southbound on York Durham Line, north of the intersection at Elgin Mills Road. The vehicle drifted over towards the shoulder of the roadway causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle crossed the centre line, striking a cyclist.

The cyclist, a 63-year-old man from the Town of Pickering, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, a 30-year-old woman from Whitchurch-Stouffville, attended a hospital for minor injuries.

The names of the involved parties will not be released at this time. The investigation is ongoing
