London man Myung-Joon Kang charged for alleged Pension Plan fraud

On August 30th, London RCMP officers charged Myung-Joon Kang of London (Ontario) with defrauding the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security of approximately $133,000.  He is charged with one count of Fraud over $5000 under the Criminal Code.

Police allege that Myung-Joon Kang collected pension benefits of a deceased relative for 19 years. Employment and Social Development Canada identified an overpayment of benefits and contacted the RCMP for further investigation.

“The RCMP is committed to working with our partners to investigate such activities and raise public awareness with regards to the consequences of defrauding the federal government and the tax payers of Canada”, stated S/Sgt. Steve Arthur, Acting Officer in Charge of RCMP London Detachment.

Mr. Kang is scheduled to appear at the London Court House on October 10, 2013.
