Toronto police has arrested a suspect deemed to be friends and occasional driver of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who has been charged with drug trafficking, drug possession and conspiracy after a police raid on a dry cleaning shop. 35-year-old Alessandro Lisi was taken into custody on Tuesday night at Richview Cleaners in the city’s west end.

Even though numerous police officers were present inside the shop in casual clothing at around 8 p.m., almost all of them declined to comment. A press release issued by Toronto Police Service claims that Mr. Lisi was charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of proceeds of crime and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Apart from Lisi, another suspect taken into custody during the Tuesday evening bust was 47-year-old Jamshid Bahrami, who is charged with possession of cocaine, trafficking in marijuana and conspiracy. Both men are due to appear in court on Wednesday.

Police explained to have initiated an investigation into Mr. Lisi’s activities since emergence of highly controversial and notorious reports regarding a video showing the mayor smoking crack cocaine in May. According to the mayor’s office, Toronto police has already interviewed at least five former staffers in the mayor’s office regarding their investigation into the alleged video. Whereas, Toronto’s Mayor himself questions the existence of the video, as he unambiguously mentioned back in May that “I can’t comment on a video that I have never seen or does not exist.”
