Horwath calls for public input to make government deliver on promise to lower auto insurance rates

New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath was in Scarborough today to ask people to help make the government deliver on their promise to reduce auto insurance rates by writing into a new website the New Democrats launched today: www.yourstoriesontario.ca. 

“People tell us they’re tired of watching their government deliver for well-connected insiders while the challenges facing their families are ignored,” said Horwath. “I think it’s time that people had their say.”

Horwath met with local residents in Scarborough who are facing rising auto insurance rates despite this government’s promise to reduce rates by 15 per cent.  She asked them to send a message to the government by sharing their stories at the new website:  www.yourstoriesontario.ca.

“The people of Scarborough can’t afford lobbyists but their voices need to be heard,” said Horwath. “I’m asking them and people across the province to visit a website, www.yourstoriesontario.ca,  to tell their story so we can help deliver results.”

Horwath and the New Democrats have focused on priorities that deliver results for the people of Ontario: working hard to ensure the government delivers promised auto insurance reductions, reduced wait times for home care, a youth jobs strategy and government accountability.  Legislation establishing a Financial Accountability Office, an NDP initiative, has passed a final vote.  However many Ontarians are still concerned they’re not seeing the changes promised by the Liberals in the most recent Budget.

The new website allows Ontarians to help make this government keep its promises to them by sharing their stories about their experiences with auto insurance rates, home care wait times, jobs for youth and government accountability.
