Today the Wynne government rejected NDP Energy critic Peter Tabuns’ call for a provincial Environment Assessment of the Line 9 reversal project.

“Why is Premier Wynne rejecting a provincial environmental assessment of the Line 9 reversal project?” asked Tabuns, MPP for Toronto-Danforth.

In response to Tabuns’ call for a Line 9 Environmental Assessment,  Minister of Energy Bob Chairelli said it was the responsibility of the federal government to access the project’s environmental impacts.

“I’m surprised to hear that this government has so much confidence in the Harper government’s approach to environmental protection,” responded Tabuns.

Tabuns also raised the concerns of Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller, who flagged issues with the kind of oil that will flow through the reversal line.

“Why is this government ignoring the concerns of the Environmental Commissioner and those of so many others – why don’t they call an Environmental Assessment?” asked Tabuns.
