Ottawa police search for missing man Jehangir Balsara

The Ottawa Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Jehangir Balsara, 57 years old, of Ottawa.  He left his residence in Kanata on the morning of November 4, 2013 driving a 2012 Honda Civic grey and brown, with an Ontario license plate BRCE 049.  He never made it to his destination in the south end of Ottawa.

He is described as an East Indian male, 6’1” (185cm), heavier build, balding with salt and pepper hair. He was last seen wearing a blue dress shirt with dark coloured pants and a blue windbreaker that has a sailboat logo over the left breast of the jacket.

Update 1: On Thursday, November 7, 2013 at approximately 9:30 pm, the Ottawa Police Service received information that the vehicle belonging to Mr. Jehangir Balsara had been located in the area of Island Park Drive and Sir John A McDonald Parkway. Ottawa Police and RCMP officers are currently searching the immediate area for the missing male. 

The Ottawa Police Service is continuing to investigate this file.

Update 2: The Ottawa Police Service Emergency Measures Unit (EMU) and Marine, Dive and Trails (MDT) Unit have completed the shoreline search at Bates Island and the small island near the Champlain Bridge. Officers have also looked at accessible islands nearby.

MDT is now doing an open water search East of Bates Island.

The Missing persons Unit continues to investigate and follow-up on tips about Mr. Barsala. There is no evidence of foul play at this time.

Update 3: The Ottawa police Service would like to advise that Mr. Jehangir Balsara’s body has been located in the Ottawa River by Gatineau Police on Friday late afternoon, near Laurier Street, in Gatineau.

No foul play is suspected. No further information will be released.
