Office of Toronto Councillor Doug Ford has informed event organizers that the city councilor has withdrawn his live auction item he previously offered to the Chief of Police Gala, i.e. Victim Services Toronto’s major annual fundraising event, in light of several days of public lashing out at the city’s top cop. Gala co-chair, Brian Moniz, revealed that he was informed by Ford’s office on Tuesday, explaining that he has withdrawn his offer for a lunch and dinner with him and his brother, Mayor Rob Ford, at Harbour Sixty Steakhouse.

Furthermore, the email also informed organizers that the councilor will not be attending the charity. Moniz alleged that the email did not offer any reason for sudden withdrawal, asserting that “you’ll have to ask Councillor Doug Ford.” The bold step to have withdrawn their offer for a charity event has come after a lengthy public spat between Toronto police chief, Bill Blair, and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, as Blair announcement last Thursday that investigators have recovered a video showing Mr. Ford smoking crack.

Consequently, the councillor openly spoke against the Police Chief during his radio show and alleged that Blair’s comment were “disappointing.” Ford suggested that the police chief should step aside, while threatening that he would complain to the police services board and the Office of the Independent Police Review Director. In contrast to that, the mayor made a startling confession on Tuesday afternoon, admitting that he had smoked crack cocaine. He offered public apology but refused any call to resign or take leave.
