Several hundred Toronto residents marched to Toronto City Hall on Saturday, carrying signs and megaphones, to demand the Toronto’s embattled Mayor Rob Ford to give up his seat amid a serious and prolonged scandal. The protest was a direct result of latest allegations laid against Mayor Rob Ford, which said that he was allegedly witnessed with a prostitute and sniffing cocaine. Additionally, Ford further downed his reputation on Thursday by making lewd comment about oral sex on live television.
On the other hand, Toronto City Council also came into action and out rightly voted to strip the mayor of his several executive powers on Friday, though the protesters gathered on Saturday’s demanded Ford to resign immediately. One of those present in the rally, Ben O’Brian, alleged that “I had a BBC reporter say (to me) ‘try to explain this to people outside of Toronto.’ And there’s no explaining it. It doesn’t make sense to people in Toronto.” He added that “it’s a person who is in the middle of a catastrophic self-destruction and he still wants to be in power for some reason. It doesn’t make any sense. He clearly – completely – is out of touch with reality.” Another simply and directly chanted: “Rob Ford resign.”
One of those in the protest held a banner which said “Worst Mayor Ever,” while another wrote on a chalk wall “what do we tell the children?” Rena Ashton carried a sign featuring a Dr. Seuss-inspired poem she wrote. “Will you act foolish on the streets? Or drink in the driver’s seat? Will you smoke crack in a stupor? Or must we wait for one more blooper?” her sign read.
