Vancouver Police Department is investigating a video recording that apparently shows a sick challenge between two panhandlers near the Granville Mall, who allowed a passer-by to kick them in the groin in exchange for money. The “kick in the groin for cash” video was posted on YouTube.com but has been removed now.

The scandalous video illustrates a young, heavy-set man in his early 20s giving away money on the sidewalk and asking a relatively older panhandler angrily if he really wants more money. When the older man admits that he needs money, the young man summarily kicks his foot in his direction. Shortly afterwards, another panhandler steps forwards and proposes the younger man to also kick for the cash. Meanwhile, the crowd gathers nearby and begins chanting encouraging statements and pump the younger, heavy-set man who then repeatedly kicks the panhandler after handing over an undisclosed amount of cash.

Later on, the older panhandler spoke to a news reporter about the incident and confessed that though he wasn’t homeless, he was desperate for money. He also explained that the younger, heavy-set man appeared to be drunk and offered him $50 to take the kick. He revealed that the man seemed too intoxicated to hit him and so he was not seriously hurt. After that, the kicker also made a failed attempt to take back his money. One of the witnesses who saw the incident on Sunday, local busker known by the nickname Spoons, told that he’s seen street people go to extremes to make money before, and passersby who are happy to watch.
