A man has been charged in relation to a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in February.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, a collision occurred at the intersection of 10 Avenue and 5 Street S.W.

A white 2007 Chevrolet Express van was travelling south along 5 Street on the approach to the intersection with 10 Ave S.W.  The van proceeded into the intersection with a green light and then made a westbound turn onto 10 Avenue S.W.

A female pedestrian was in the crosswalk with the right of way, when she was struck by the van. She was dragged under the vehicle for a short distance before coming to a stop.

The woman was transported in critical condition to a local hospital, where she later died.

Alcohol and speed were not considered factors in this collision.

After a thorough investigation and in consultation with the Crown Prosecutor’sOffice, Edwin Yim Chau, 51, of Calgary, was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
