A Southwest Division patrol officer was charged today with assault in connection with an incident which occurred on June 6, 2010.
At approximately 4 a.m. on June 6 Const. Haoyin Zheng responded to a ‘trouble with person’ call at a residence at 12 Avenue and 156 Street. A male suspect was subsequently arrested in the hallway of an apartment building. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s alleged that Const. Zheng used excessive force while the suspect was being detained and while he was handcuffed.
The EPS began an investigation after receiving an internal complaint and Const. Zheng was suspended with pay on June 16. He has been off duty and will remain so until resolution of the matter.
Const. Zheng, 30, was charged today with assault (x2) and his first court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2010.
