A 56-year-old man from the Esgenoôpetitj First Nation has been charged with six sex related crimes following an RCMP investigation.

Wilbert (Wilbur) Dedam has been charged with one count of rape, one count of having sexual intercourse with a female under 14 years old, one count of having sexual intercourse with a female between the age of 14 and 16 years old, one count of sexual intercourse with a foster daughter, and two counts of sexual assault.

The alleged crimes occurred between 1977 and 1996.

Dedam has been remanded into custody until his bail hearing, scheduled in Miramichi Provincial Court on May 12, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
