A court decision has sentenced a father to serve 60 days in jail for a fatal slap that killed his teenage daughter. The court was told that 74-year-old Moussa Sidime only wanted to correct his 13-year-old, Noutene, for doing a bad job of washing the kitchen floor. According to the decision read out by Judge Richard Marleau on Wednesday, two months imprisonment was sufficient for Sidime in light of his remorse and clean criminal record.

The defendant plead guilty last June to involuntary manslaughter for the attack that sent his daughter tumbling to the ground in their home in October 2010. During the trial, the court heard that the teen was struck at least three times, whereas a police officer testified that Sidime immediately called 911 to honestly report that he had slapped his daughter and that she was bleeding from the nose and mouth. Thereafter, the officers found Noutene unconscious on the kitchen floor and she passed away later in hospital.

In addition to that, the court was assured that there were no external signs of violence but that there was hemorrhaging in her brain and her liver. Previously, Sidime broke down in court in February, and told at his sentence hearing that it was the first time he had ever slapped his daughter. He said that “If I had known one slap would kill her … I can’t believe it could be fatal,” and added that “(she was) the kindest of my children I always think about my daughter. I’m not a villain. I’ve never been a villain.”
