A Canadian clinic has confirmed that Toronto’s embattled and highly controversial Mayor, Rob Ford, is undergoing treatment at their rehabilitation facility. According to an official press release issued by GreenStone Clinic Muskoka in Bala, Ontario, on Friday, Mr. Ford has finally consented to reveal that the he is staying at the facility.

Mr. Ford announced late last month that he was going to seek treatment for an alcohol problem in light of the latest videos that surfaced online once again showing him smoking a crack pipe late last month. Those videos were only few among many other in the ongoing saga of Mr. Ford, whose notorious and frequently filmed behaviour forced the city council to leave him without almost any of the mayor’s powers and handed them over to the deputy mayor. There were speculations and unconfirmed reports about the embattled mayor of Canada’s largest city being in rehab somewhere in Canada as he was spotted taking photos with residents of a small town neighbouring Bala last week. A few days later, the mayor’s car was impounded after a Muskoka resident was arrested behind the wheel and charged with impaired driving.

According to the clinic’s statement, “we ask that the public and the media respect the privacy of all the patients at GreenStone, to ensure they receive the most comprehensive and effective treatment.” It was added that “we take our patient care and confidentiality very seriously and as a result will not be commenting further on this matter.”
