A couple has been charged with forcible confinement and failing to provide the necessaries of life after London police discovered a 10 year old boy who had been locked in a bedroom for up to two years. The Children’s Aid Society of London and Middlesex received tip from a concerned individual, after which they contacted police on Thursday at around 1:45 pm and requested assistance in checking on the welfare of a child at a residence.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers and CAS workers entered the home and found a child locked in a bedroom, living in filthy conditions. Reports claim that the boy was allegedly held in a master bedroom for a period of 18 to 24 months. Thereafter, the boy was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed as being underweight and suffering from malnutrition.
According to the Police officers, the young boy has now been released from hospital and is currently in the care of the CAS. London Police Detective, Kevin Heslop, explained that “the couple has another, biological child” and “that child has been apprehended by Childrens Aid, but there is no evidence that that child was locked in the room.” The couple living at the home has not had any prior interaction with either London police or CAS. However, the Children’s Aid Society record shows they had brief contact with the family in 2007 at another location.
