According to Durham police, the victim was held against his will and assaulted, though he managed to escape when he convinced his captors he could get their money from a social services office.

According to the police, the incident began on Monday, June 2, when the victim was confronted by three roommates over rent money that had been loaned to him. Investigators believe that he was held against his will in the home in the Taunton Road and Country Lane area and assaulted with a knife and a broken liquor bottle during his ordeal. The victim told them about having an appointment with social services and alleged to be going to be get the money. Therefore, two of the suspects drove him to a municipal office. However, the victim informed the staff about his ordeal during the appointment and the police were called.

Consequently, the two suspects who drove the suspect were immediately arrested while an arrest warrant was issued for the third. 33-year-old Kevin Marrast and 24-year-old Keshia Lafond-Carter are both charges including kidnapping, forcible confinement and assault. Whereas, assault with a weapon and uttering threats have been charged to Mr. Marrast alone. Meanwhile, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Eon Charles, 37, of Brownridge Place, Whitby.
